Lions Lions Lions, WHY?

Well,

Hi...I'm new to this blog, figured I would have a lot to talk about when it comes to the Lions. I've been a Lions fan all my life, all 22 years of it.  The funny and pathetic thing is that my dad, who is actually native of Michigan has also been a Lions fan for all his life.  Unfortunately, in both our cases, we've seen little no signs of life out of this organization.  Its obvious that it has its problems, but why.  The city of Detroit is a great sports city.  Pistons, Red Wings, even the Tigers now are in the upper echelon of their respective sports.  Even the WNBA team is a perennial powerhouse.  So why not our beloved Lions?

The Lions have boasted the NFL's most exciting back of all time, I don't even need to mention his name.  They have a new, state-of-the-art stadium, and one of the greatest traditions in sports, thanksgiving day football.  Yet, they are usually mismanaged, have mediocre players overpaid, and seem to use the draft as a fantasy college football team.

When it comes down to it, it might take that 0-16 season to turn things around in Detroit.   This might make them famous for something.  They will be in the record books finally.  But that aside, 0-16 may make them start with a clean slate.  They should try to find themselves again and become the Detroit Lions.  Right now, they have no identity, they are continually modeling themselves after other teams.  Most recently, a really bad St. Louis Rams.  They need to get a star quarterback in there, not an aging backup, as they've had for the past few seasons.  I find myself getting emotionally attached to these aging vets under center, but they are just not cutting it.  Someone needs to hire a strength and conditioning coach and a QB coach and turn the tremendous talents, Drew Stanton and Dan Orlovsky, into all-star quarterbacks.

Every other team in their history has found hidden talent.  Yet, since I can remember, this isn't the Lion's MO.  Even when they were mediocre in the 90s, most NFL highlight tapes containing the Lions were Barry, Barry and more Barry...and Scott Mitchell.  But now-a-days, its teams beating up on the Lions defense.  I just hope that 0-13 can turn into something other than 0-16.  Let me know what you think.

Stop in Saturday for my much longer article on my take on the match up against the Colts....hey, crazier things have happened.
