Defense is the key to the Lions success

The Lions defense can be summed up by one word. PATHETIC. Its almost amusing watching these guys play, cause they all look like rookies. Linebackers arn't wrapping up, corners ar playing off and getting burned, and the line is playing like theres a brick wall in front of the opposing QB.

This unit needs to start playing aggresive. Its imbarrasing watching a running back get hit behind the line and gain eight yards or seeing a reciever wide open all the way downfield. These two things happened on countless occasions in the last two games. Part of the reason, I think, is this joke of a scheme called the Tampa 2.

A Tampa 2 requires pressure on the QB and the covers to play tight on the recievers. Tampa Bay made this defense look amazing when it was brand new and no one has seen it. They picked off everyone. The Lions are now trying to run it when everyone knows how to beat it and they dont have the pieces to run it anyhow. It worked for Tampa because they had guys like Warren Sapp and Simeon Rice getting in their every play.

Our corners are playing 5 yards off the scrimmage and getting killed by pump routes and short passes. They need to start bumping off the line and slowing these recievers down a bit, cause i don't know about you but I'm fed up with seeing the 50-60 yards pass plays against us.

The Lions need to switch to an aggresive style defense and start playing mean and go back to the fundamentals. Wrapping up, bumping off the line, and attcking the ball carrier. The defense needs to stop showing off to the fans, that are fed up, with the big hit, and get this season back on the right track. We have the fire power on offense to put up 30, now lets work on keeping 31 off for the opposing team.
